Thanks to those who came to the Platinum Prerelease in Lusby. We had 49 players (20, 17, and 12 in the Masters, Seniors, and Juniors). Congrats to winners Michael M, Trevor L and Dylan A. photo credit: Sue Sullivan.
I expected to have the SoMD Pokémon Forum up a few days earlier, but some server issues prevented this from happening.
The good news is that we have a functioning forum. We're still in "beta mode" right now, but things are looking good (I have 12 loyal testers right now who are doing an great job helping me out), so we should be able to open it up to the public shortly.
If you haven't taken the opportunity to join any Pokémon-related internet forums in the past, this may be a good time.
I know I'm gonna want to get my hands on one of these! And you may too- if you come to the Platinum Prerelease this Sunday! Looks great for stall decks. Or perhaps Absol/Ambipom? I wonder if there will be a way to get cards out of the Lost Zone? No matter. This looks like it's gonna be loads of fun for whoever can get their hands on this!
Now, on to the next news item. I'm going to finally get that forum up we've been waiting for. Some stuff got in the way, but I'm going to go ahead and set it up in the next 8 days. I've tested it out, so there shouldn't be any problems.
The forum will be a really nice feature for this website and I'm sure you all have things you want to talk about but haven't had the chance to do so. The forum may also be a good place for exchange of Pokémon related ideas, like decklists, tournament policy, recent tournaments, or whatever you may be interested in. SoMD Pokémon TCG Forum, up by January 28th. Keep your eyes peeled.
Lucario is the Prerelease promo. Everyone who comes to a Platinum Prerelease will receive one of these, as well as card sleeves with Giratina! (while supplies last) We will let you know when the Prerelease in Lusby is, as soon as we know. It appears that a new game mechanic, Pokémon "G" will be introduced, as indicated by the Honchkrow G card from Platinum:
Info for the Prerelease event for the latest Pokémon TCG event is up! http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?p=1235946 8 boosters for $25? Yes that's right. You're going to buy boosters anyway, there's no reason not to go! See you there!
I'm back from Otakon. According to early estimates, there were 26,324 people there (not including guests, dealers, staff, or hired contractors used to assist in running the convention). I took pictures. Not too much Pokémon stuff there, but you can believe there was tons of cosplay!
The pictures I have was not everything, as I was there Friday-Saturday, but not Sunday. Also, there were costumes I did not see. There were cosplayers I saw from the registration line, but couldn't get to (because I was in a line) and some cosplayers just walk too fast to catch up with. There were tons of people there dressed in Pokémon clothes but not wearing a costume. In addition, some costumes are just crap, and don't deserve to be photographed (if you wear a yellow shirt which you wrote "Pika" on with a permanent marker, you are not cosplaying).
I went as Professor Oak (forgot to take a picture) and was photographed 9 times. It sure is cool to go to conventions like this, where you can walk up to strangers and ask to take photographs with a near zero perecent rejection rate.
While you're on the photos section of this website, I added some more photos of US National Championship 2008
Legends Awakened comes out August 20. Make sure to buy a box as soon as you can, because this set is turning out to be very popular! Here's the prerelease attendance:
